Description Jim McAtee 2009-02-24 17:26:56 UTC
I don't really like the larger font for the current selection. It gives the interface a 'jumpy' feel that I think should be avoided. Even worse, some items that don't need to scroll at the smaller font size will scroll when highlighted. The background highlighting and/or foreground coloring should be sufficient for recognizing the current selection.

Noah, thought you should see this feedback. I'm not sure I agree, I'd like to take a look at this again once the first pass is completed.

I have been filing this type of feedback as running commentary. I agree the text size and selection bar treatment should be reviewed once we have completed this round of implementation. Overall readability and a unified look and feel will drive the final design...

Weldon/Dean- please reopen if needed.

At current stage in development process this is the only negative feedback to support removing scaling text I am aware of...

Only??? See: https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12704#c12

and the comment:

"Ah, the one other comment I do have about the text scaling is that when you
actually mouse over an item, perhaps it was all readable in the small font, but
then some of it disappears (gets truncated) as soon as you select it. I think
that's really what boggles my brain."

The scaling effect is too subtle to be of practical use, yet it causes weirdness like this. The weirdness is not just with items that have to be scrolled once they're selected. Any item that is truncated because it's wider than the screen becomes further truncated when selected. It makes for a shaky feeling user interface.
