Bugzilla – Bug 11148
Interface color schemes/skinning ability
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:11:38 UTC
Currently there's the ability to define a background image. But the interface elements are fixed colors, which often don't work well with different backgrounds. Give the ability to select different color schemes for the interface. Define maybe 8 to 12 standard schemes to choose from, plus allow users to define their own in a simple text file. If many of the ui elements consist of images (rather than being rendered graphically), which is how they appear to be implemented, this ability should also permit redefining the images used for icons, buttons, etc. I'd keep it simple, so that image sizes must be the same as the originals (no sense in creating layout issues). This would give users a simple, yet fairly complete means of skinning the interface.
Ben and Richard are building a framework for supporting multiple skins. Let's leave this bug open and let them comment. Details on how to create your own should go up on the wiki.
I hope there are also plans to include several skins in different color schemes as part of the standard installation. Arguments over whether a teal highlight is good or bad seem rather silly when it should be fairly easy for a graphic artist to produce several different color schemes. Do a completely monochrome skin, then do one with teal highlights, do a red one, a blue one, etc....
Marking this as future, it's a good idea but time is running out.
