Bugzilla – Bug 11145
Artists grouped together when they shouldn't
Last modified: 2011-08-11 12:23:44 UTC
Two different artists, one with an article and the other without an article, are grouped together. They should not be grouped together, they're different artists. i.e. 'The Glove' & 'Glove' are grouped together, but are different artists.
Please look at Settings > Music Library > Articles to ignore when sorting. what do you have entered in there?
A The El La Los Las Le Les Un Une De Het Een Yes, 'The' is listed here. It shouldn't merge artists, though. Another example: 'The Human League' has been sorted under 'H', it hasn't been changed to 'Human League'. (Which happens with 'The Glove') 'The Glove' should have been sorted under 'G', but listed as 'The Glove' 'Glove' should have been sorted under 'G', listed as 'Glove'
please attach a sample track for 'glove' and 'the glove'
How can I create a sample track?
In this bug report, click on 'add an attachment' then locate and upload a track that you currently have in your music library
Created attachment 4852 [details] Sample Track: 'Glove' Converted from .flac to .mp3 so I'm able to upload the sample track.
Created attachment 4853 [details] Sample Track: 'The Glove' Converted from .flac to .mp3 so I'm able to upload the sample track.
We are now planning to make a 7.3.3 release. Please review your bugs (all marked open against 7.3.3) to see if they can be fixed in the next few weeks, or if they should be retargeted for 7.4 or future. Thanks!
Hi Dennis, if you want Glove and The Glove to appear separately, you can just delete 'The' from the list of articles on the Settings -> My Music page.
Chris, That's not really the problem. I want my artists sorted without 'The'. i.e. The Cure should be sorted under C, not under T. But if there are 2 artists, one with 'the' and another without 'the'. They shouldn't be merged. In the case of 'The Glove' and 'Glove' they both should be sorted under 'G', but listed separately..., not both under 'Glove'. Your 'solution' results in all artist with 'The' to be sorted under 'T'.
We need to figure out where this change can be put in; there are a number of related bugs.
Andy to investigate this issue in depth and come up with a logical solution.
Just to reiterate, it seems to me like this kind of processing is happening at scan-time when it should happen at display-time.
Related?: Bug 12796 and bug 10324
Bug 10324 maybe, not the one one which is about playlists.
It looks like this has been solved in 7.6.x
Yes, in 7.6 any difference at all in the ARTIST tag, even capitalization, will cause more than one artist to appear in the library. Please close the bug.
Fixed in 7.6.
