Description Blah 2009-02-05 15:57:43 UTC
I am using my squeezecenter on a linux using a french locale (fr_FR@euro).

And strings containing an accent are truncated on the squeezebox display. The easiest example is the current date : "Vendredi, 6 février" is displayed as "Vendredi, 6 f"

Squeezecenter version is (7.3.3~24887) debian package.

Do you see this with _any_ content (song title, folder name, date etc.)? Could you please provide a picture? Do you see the same when accessing the server using softsqueeze (might simplify the screenshot)?

I've seen many issues with accented and non-latin characters. But never did I see this...

It does happen with filenames but not with track title when playing for example.
See attachment for the photo of the screen.

What locale settings do you see in Settings/Information (Réglages/Informations)? From what you describe everything which should come from the system (file name, date) is broken. Which leads me to the conclusion, that your locale might be causing trouble here. What exact distribution on what system are you running?
Comment 5 Blah 2009-02-09 01:24:03 UTC
I'm running an fully up to date debian unstable on x86_64.
My squeezecenter is configured in english (i have no access to my squeezebox right now) and my sqzbox is displaying everything in english too. Maybe this could cause problems ?

Also, my Boom is subject to the same bug.

Hu?!? In your first comment you stated "I am using my squeezecenter on a linux using a french locale (fr_FR@euro).", the display definitely says "février" or you wouldn't even have been able to report this issue. Which means you can't be running your Linux box in all English.
Comment 7 Blah 2009-02-09 07:30:00 UTC
sorry if my previous comment was confusing.

Was i meant is that while my system is running on a french locale, squeezecenter itself (Basic Settings -> language) is set to language. and on the squeezebox, menus like "Music Folder" or "Settings" are displayed in english.

I hope this is clear.
Comment 8 Michael Herger 2009-02-09 07:38:56 UTC
could you still tell me what Settings/Information says about your locale? As I mentioned before the issue here is related to your system's locale, not the language setting chosen in SC.
Comment 9 Blah 2009-02-09 14:24:49 UTC
if you mean the "Settings -> information -> squeezecenter -> OS" entry

I have "Debian - EN - utf8".

I can see no other entry which tells about locales

QA - can you reproduce? Working fine here, displaying German März. Is this a x64 only issue? If it was a general problem, we wouldn't see one single complaint.
Comment 11 Blah 2009-05-13 16:54:13 UTC
unfortunately the bug is still present in "Version: 7.3.3 - 25220 @ Sun Mar 1 03:15:21 PST 2009".

Investigating concerning filenames, after trying both UTF8 and ISO locales for the system and both french and english settings in squeezecenter, it seems it is because the filenames on the filesystem are encoded in ISO.

I would have to try for the date, but changing my system's date is not an option.

I hope this helps

Ross: Please setup a x64 VM to test this out with.
Comment 13 James Richardson 2009-10-23 12:28:55 UTC
Blah: can you retest with 7.4.1 to see if this issue has been addressed for you. IF it has not, please reopen the bug and include a log with the following set to debug

(player.display) - Player Display Information
(player.fonts) - Player Display (Font & Bitmap Information)
Comment 14 Blah 2009-10-26 15:45:18 UTC
it seems it's fixed, thanks.

I'll reopen if I find out it's not completely ok.
