Bugzilla – Bug 10949
fab4 needs to reconnect to SC for firmware update notification success
Last modified: 2012-02-27 17:19:06 UTC
steps to reproduce: have an already running 7.4 SqueezeCenter connect a Fab4 running not current firmware to a player attached to that SC observe whether the Fab4 is prompted for an update, or even if Settings->Advanced->Software Update shows an update is available in my testing, the Fab4 does not know about new firmware until the SC is restarted, even if the new firmware is *already downloaded and in the cache directory* prior to the Fab4 connecting. SC restart pushes the new firmware update to screen immediately.
I'm not sure this is related to issue 10745: while my fab4 updated easily, SBC never even told me there was an update. No restart would help. The problem is simpler than rebooting SC: fab4 needs to re-connect to SC. This can be forced by rebooting SC, or simply by changing player. I saw this behaviour as well. As if fab4/jive was asking for the update or informed about the update when connecting only.
7.4 r25193 fixes the issue
Correction, not fixed with the above version.. Attempted to upgrade from r4399 to r4474 but device does not 'auto' upgrade. Rebooting server does not prompt for reboot. Which logs would be helpful in this case?
Same logs as before - can you confirm what you mean by "auto" upgrade - do you mean it does not automatically display the upgrade screen?

Created attachment 4873 [details] Fab4 Log
Log says fab4 started with r4525 which is why it didn't offer an upgrade in this case! For info: This is the inital request: [09-02-27 13:00:38.9476] Slim::Web::Cometd::handler (143) Cometd request: [ { channel => "/slim/subscribe", data => { request => [ "00:04:20:22:00:1e", [ "firmwareupgrade", "firmwareVersion:7.4 r4525", "machine:fab4", "subscribe:0", ], ], response => "/29aa7b7f/slim/firmwarestatus/00:04:20:22:00:1e", }, id => 29, }, ] Which then triggers a download for the version file and then the firmware. This then tiggers a new check of version: [09-02-27 13:00:41.0093] Slim::Utils::Firmware::init_fw_done (277) downloaded 7.4 4474 for fab4 - /Users/James/Library/Caches/SqueezeCenter/fab4_7.4_r4474.bin [09-02-27 13:00:41.0109] Slim::Utils::Firmware::need_upgrade (381) fab4 doesn't need an upgrade (has: 7.4 r4525, server has: 7.4 4474)
Doh...retesting with 4399, I had the wrong image on my device
OK, now that I have an 'older' firmware on the device, it prompts to upgrade as it should. Re-assigning to my self for continued verification. Thanks Triode
James, is this still an issue, or can we close this bug?
Richard: Leave it open and assigned to me, I want to test some more. I'll close it when we goto MPQ firmware
OK, it's been several firmware revisions now with no problems. bug 11738 is still an issue
Closing resolved bugs - if you feel this bug still exists please first re-test with the latest SW/FW version. If you are able to reproduce then feel free to reopen and attach new logs / steps to reproduce.
