Description Alessandro Guida 2009-01-10 07:17:41 UTC
Not sure whether it is a scanner problem or database.

It used to be in such a way that if I had specified an "AlbumArtist" tag for the songs in an album that album will show under Artist->"AlbumArtist" and not under all the various track artists.

Now seems in 7.3.2 that the behaviour is changed and the album is also listed under each of the track artists with just one song in it.

I verified that in 6.5.2 and 7.1 the behaviour was correct (album only listed under the albumartist artist). Songs have no other tags in them beside the albumartist, track artist, song title, album title, year and track number (no compilation or other fancy tags).

As an example:

Frank Sinatra's Duets. "Albumartist" is Frank Sinatra and songs are:

1. Title: The Lady Is A Tramp. Artist: Frank Sinatra, Luther VandRoss
2. Title: What Now My Love. Artist: Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin
....
and so on.

I want to see this album only under Frank Sinatra. It doesn't make sense to have it mentioned under Aretha Franklin or Luther Vandross. I have already 30+ albums by Aretha Franklin and adding one more with only one song for which she is just in a duet it's really not interesting.

As an additional comment I want to point out that I understand that some people really want to see each and every song they have in the database for each artist. I am only interested in looking at it as albums and not as single songs. As it was before both behaviours were possible: using the albumartist tag I would get the behaviour I like, leaving the albumartist tag out the behaviour would be as other people like it, i.e. album would be listed also under each contributing artist.

This functionality was actually one of the reasons why I choose the squeezebox and the transporter over other systems and I really hope it can be either reverted to how it was when I have bought it or made it possible by adding an explicit option in the settings.

Thanks

After discussions in the forum and comments ot other bugs I convinced myslef, tahat even if this is how it was back in version 6, that's not how it should work. So I would like to cancel this bug. I am changing the rsolution to "worksforme". Not sure whether this is the right process. If not please change accordingly or delete. Thanks.
