Description Julius Dauz 2009-01-09 15:30:41 UTC
A customer reported this issue, but there is no way for me to try and reproduce it, so I am filing this bug.

Customer states that SqueezeCenter 7.3.1 (current debian stable release) and 7.3.2 (debian testing)will crash with the following error on his Ubunut 8.10 64bit machine.

Slim::Networking::IO::Select::select (271) Error: Select task failed: Not a reference at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 342.

we'd nee more information: when does this happen? More messages form the log? System information etc.

Hi Michael,

I am the originator of this bug, here is some more info:

I installed Squeezecenter by apt-get using the provided repository at http://debian.slimdevices.com - I tried stable and testing - results are the same.

Installation works, I can also start the server and access it via the browser to make my settings. As far as I can see, the errors occur when I start more than one network connection to the server, which happens already when clicking around in the GUI.

I see this in my squeezecenter/server.log

Slim::Networking::IO::Select::select (271) Error: Select task failed: Not a reference at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 342.

after this, alls network connections start to timeout and I have to restart the server process to get it up working again.

For me, it looks like forking off a second child process to handle the network connection is unsuccessful and not handled properly.

Oliver

Michael are you the right person to assign this too?
Comment 4 Michael Herger 2009-01-12 09:56:51 UTC
works for me.

QA - can you reproduce this issue?
Comment 5 Michael Herger 2009-01-13 00:03:29 UTC
Oliver - are you using stream.mp3? Is this the same issue as reported in the forums? http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57511
Comment 6 oliwel 2009-01-13 12:41:56 UTC
Michael, yes indeed - I did my first tries against stream.mp3.
If it would help, I can try it with a "real" box, too.

I'm pretty sure it's related to the stream.mp3. Please test without. And upload a few more lines of your log. Thanks!

For whatever reason, after upgrading from 7.3 to current stable (Version: 7.3.1 - 24372 @ Fri Dec 19 17:38:52 PST 2008), the bug seems to have disappeared. Even stream.mp3 is working now.

I just submitted a similar report plaguing 7.3 and up for Mac.

To reproduce on Mac 10.5 using 7.3 and later:

Clean install (following the instructions from the wiki and forum). Start server. Access web control. Even access stream locally. After attempting to connect to stream.mp3 remotely, web control panel and stream are inaccessible without restarting prefpane.

Same error as reported above https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10628#c2 is found in the log:

[09-01-14 20:07:31.9526] Slim::Networking::IO::Select::select (271) Error: Select task failed: Not a reference at /Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 342.

Reverting to 7.2.1 corrects the problem.

change 24657 - software players don't have a menu. Only set pref if available.

This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.3 release version of SqueezeCenter!

If you haven't already. please download the new version from http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezecenter.html

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
