Bugzilla – Bug 10620
SC should store version and platform info in scanner.log and server.log
Last modified: 2009-10-05 14:38:09 UTC
To better help diagnosing user and revision-based problems, I think SC should store it’s version and platform information in server.log and scanner.log whenever it is started (again). This would help SlimDevices/Logitech support personnel as well as users themselves. For instance, I could easily check for changed behaviour and see in the log files with which version things happened/were fixed.
sounds very reasonable
Triode - is there a simple way to log one line at initialization without making it an "error" level message? Users would get scared by those...
No enhancements in the 7.3.x series
Most trival way would be to add a new log category and set it to INFO and then only use it to log the startup message. Not sure how much more state this is adding for just this though.
change 24643 - add version, revision number and build time to log whenever SC or the scanner are started Adrian $log->error() seems like the simplest way to achieve this. And as the log level is not logged itself, this scare users.
Confirmed working in SC7.3.3-24684/Win for server.log: [09-01-16 21:41:03.3437] main::init (270) Starting SqueezeCenter (v7.3.3, r24684, Fri Jan 16 03:04:42 PST 2009) Didn't see anything in scanner.log, though.
