When the Squeezebox Boom is not connected to any music source (SC or SN) the alarm will not function properly.

For example, if the alarm set to 7:00 Am Monday through Friday on SC, and the Boom is not connected to SC because the computer is off the alarm will still go on with the default background music everyday including Saturday and Sunday.

Is this a bug?

This behaviour is by design.  The rtc only has a 24 hour timer so can only store a single alarm, with no concept of associated days.  The Boom needs to be connected to squeezecenter in order to be updated with a different alarm to sound.  Unless that happens, it simply sounds the same alarm again in 24 hours, which at least provides some level of safe guard.
