"Volume" badly translated in Finnish
Last modified: 2009-01-05 02:11:22 UTC
A user reported the following: Dear Sirs, I have found an error in translation of the Finnish localization of my Squeezebox Classic after upgrading into the SW 121. After upgrading it into the new SW by pressing "now playing" long time the new SW was installed successfully and thanks to that I also found the Finnish localization! MISLEADING TRANSLATION: When I press the "Volume" button up or down I can see the long horizontal volume bar Volume (63) ******************************************* In Finnish it says Tilavuus (63) ******************************************* But the word "Tilavuus" means in Finnish like "cubic contents, cubic capacity or volume of an physical space" but does not mean like a volume of sound (immaterial item). In the dictionary "tilavuus" it says: cubic contents, cubic capacity; (kappaleen) capacity, volume from which you can see that the cubic content and volume of a sound can be easily mixed up. MY PROPOSALS: The normal expression of sound volume in Finnish language is "Voimakkuus" (meaning how loud is the sound"). The more exact expression is "Äänen voimakkuus" that means "Äänen=sound" and "voimakkuus=how loud the sound is or volume". The problem with the word "Äänen" is that it requires the special Nordic characters Ä and ä. SHORTER PROPOSAL Voimakkuus (63) ******************************************* MORE EXACT, BUT LONGER AND CONTAINS SPECIAL CHARACTERS Äänen voimakkuus (63) ******************************************* You can find my Squeezebox details under my account on user name henrik.ekman@kolumbus.fi Rgrds, Henrik
We used to translate "Volume" by "Äänenvoimakkuus" in one word. I will update SC file and will let you know what I have changed.
Please change the following ID in Squeezecenter-EN.txt "server__VOLUME" Volume Äänenvoimakkuus Thanks, François
change 24496 - thanks!
