Description radish 2009-01-01 16:31:57 UTC
Playing a track which is 7:33 long, it got to the end and then kept going (audio is silent). The progress bar on the player is showing an "elapsed time" looping from 7:34 to 8:04 (i.e 30 seconds beyond the actual track length) and the "remaining time" is looping between and -59:59 and -59:29. Pressing FWD moved onto the next track correctly.

This seems similar to what I reported in https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10524, but in this case it wasn't paused initially.

Track in question is flac, being transcoded to wav for streaming.

I've also had the problem where a song will finish playing and then it goes silent and gets stuck at the end with the time remaining showing -59:xx. The counter counts down to -59.30 and then resets to -59.59 and counts down again in a loop. It happened at least three times today with different MP3 files. In my case, pressing FWD/REW does nothing when this occurs, and I have not found a way to get the music playing again except to unplug the power and reboot the Fab4--twice. After the second reboot it will restart playing from the beginning of the song that glitched and I can skip ahead to the next song.

Added a logfile.

Started playback from fab4 around 15:18. No sound so I rebooted and it started ok around 15:19. It got into trouble at the end of the first track, around 15:23, looping in silence. I left it doing that for a while, then tried to pause with both the touchscreen and the web UI, both left it "playing" (still no sound). Eventually I hit "off" from the web UI and that stopped it. Had to restart again to get sound back.

My audio output goes dead every time I install a new nightly, and takes power cycling to get any sound back. That is, if there is not a firmware update available, after which it usually plays fine. After uninstalling and reinstalling the same nightly I found it odd that I was offered a FW update the second time but not the first (esp. considering that I had gone to settings>advanced>software update to check but was told I was up to date on the first install.)

So audio_stops_log.zip shows the second install where fw was updated and the player was working, until it hit the loop bug. I can't remember if it was the end of a track. I was able to end the silent loop by turning the player off-on in the web interface and skipping a track.

log file with notes

I attached a bit of log file where I experienced the unpaused-but-no-sound state (bug 10524) as well as the silent looping at the end of the track (this bug). Notes are at the top of the log file.

MP3 file

This song triggers the silent end of track looping problem on the previous song whenever it is inserted into a playlist to play on Fab4. If you attempt to start playing this song with nothing already playing it appears to play but there is no sound. The song plays fine on my PC and on my Boom under SqueezeCenter 7.3.1. Hope it helps.

The MP3 file that I attached to my last comment is now playing without issue on the Fab4 with firmware r3810!

So can we close this?
Comment 11 jeffrey s miller 2009-01-14 15:10:01 UTC
I haven't had any silence/reboots with the latest FW.
Comment 12 Sue Chastain 2009-01-14 16:11:03 UTC
I haven't had the problem in two days when just playing the Fab4 by itself. But I have been experimenting off and on with syncing to squeezeslave and it has happened when I have Fab4 synced to Squeezeslave. Shutting down Squeezeslave and changing tracks brings back the audio on the Fab4.
Comment 13 Blackketter Dean 2009-03-25 14:08:05 UTC
Is this still an issue for folks?
Comment 14 Richard Titmuss 2009-03-26 02:58:07 UTC
From the comments this appears to be fixed. Please reopen if you find the problem again.
