Description Mark Miksis 2008-12-26 09:44:11 UTC
When using the SBC, I find it very convenient that from any screen, including the NP screensaver, I can press "home" to get Home. I suggest that all Fab4 screens should have a touchable "home" icon. When in the Home Menu, the same icon location should contain a touchable icon that gets you to Now Playing.

Yeah, we've been discussing this offline, but the bug is a good place to move the discussion.

I see a couple of possibilities here:

1. Add a Home button somewhere on the screen in addition to the Back and Now Playing buttons. (Plus: All options visible, Minus: Clutters UI)

2. Replace the Back button with a Home button and let the user use a swipe gesture to go back. (Plus: Home button is in a natural position, not too cluttered. Minus: Back is harder to learn.)

3. Replace the Now Playing button with the Home button, except on the home screen. (Plus: Always available, Minus: Now Playing is a double tap, like on the remote).

4. Leave the Home button off, but make a swipe (or possibly two-finger swipe) a shortcut for home. (Plus: Not too cluttered, Minus: hard to learn)

Comments?

Ideally, we'd be able to prototype and test this on the working player. Ben: How hard would this be to do?

I'm not sure what percentage of customers you expect to own both an SBC and a Fab4, but I'm a big advocate of UI consistency. With that in mind, I think I'd vote for option 3. It would be interesting to be able to test a prototype implementation...

The challenge with #3 is where to then put the "1 of 11" button.

I'm going to say that we should discuss this as a separate bug about the gestures vs. the behavior of the current back button.
