Please don't preset targets.

What do you mean by "it does not start"? Do you see it in the task manager, but it disappears? Can't you access the web UI? Do the players not connect?

Could you please upload the server.log file too? Thanks.
Comment 4 James Richardson 2008-12-15 10:47:23 UTC
QA to investigate and follow up
Comment 5 James Richardson 2008-12-15 14:11:42 UTC
Jens:
Which version of Windows XP do you have?
What is the default Language?
Was this a clean install of 7.3.1 or an Upgrade from a previous version?
IF and upgrade, what version was on it before?
What if any Anti-Virus software do you have installed?

Can you please try a Clean install? removing all SC pref files before installing 7.3.1 again.
Comment 6 Jens 2008-12-16 21:53:14 UTC
Windows Service Pack 3
Norwegian
Ugfrade from 7.2

Clead Install has been tried - SC still not staring
Comment 7 Michael Herger 2008-12-16 23:57:55 UTC
Jens - could you please upload the server.log file?
Comment 8 Jens 2008-12-17 09:51:34 UTC
Please give the string where to find server.log
Comment 9 James Richardson 2008-12-17 10:08:49 UTC

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter
Comment 10 Jens 2008-12-17 11:26:45 UTC

Comment 11 Michael Herger 2008-12-17 13:32:42 UTC

Comment 12 Jens 2008-12-17 22:24:49 UTC
SC doesn't start when trying to run from DOS
Comment 13 Michael Herger 2008-12-18 00:48:06 UTC
> SC doesn't start when trying to run from DOS

But it doesn't just quit without any message neither, does it?
Comment 14 Jens 2008-12-18 07:40:54 UTC
No, nothing happens, no messages. Right clicking the Squeeze Tray still showing "Starting SqueezeCenter"
Comment 15 Michael Herger 2008-12-18 07:52:44 UTC
> No, nothing happens, no messages. Right clicking the Squeeze Tray still
> showing "Starting SqueezeCenter"

But when run from DOS, does it return to the command prompt without any output at all?
Comment 16 Jens 2008-12-18 07:57:22 UTC
No it doesn't return, atfter clicking enter, absolutely nothing happens and the command prompt window disappears
Comment 17 James Richardson 2008-12-19 10:39:35 UTC
Please give the latest build a try.

Comment 18 Jens 2008-12-19 14:29:18 UTC
Did a clean install (slow progression when installing)- still the same problem, SC still will not start
Comment 19 James Richardson 2009-01-08 10:53:09 UTC
Jens: Please try SC Version: 7.3.1 - 24372 or later.
Comment 20 James Richardson 2009-01-08 10:54:06 UTC
Michael: is there anything in Jens last log that looks like it may be the culprit?

Jen: please upload a new log when you install 7.3.1
Comment 21 James Richardson 2009-01-27 08:16:50 UTC
Have you tried SC 7.3.2 yet?

Do you still experience this issue?

Log file

Yes, stiil experiencing the same issue. Did a fresh install now. Please see attached log file-
Comment 23 James Richardson 2009-01-27 08:41:26 UTC
Jen: thanks for the quick response

Michale: Can you look at the log, there are a few errors I'm not familiar with in it. Could this be a Firewall issue?
Comment 24 Michael Herger 2009-01-27 14:43:00 UTC
Targeting this for 7.3.3 was a bit optimistic, as I still don't know what the problem is and what it's caused by.

Jens - this bug's subject says "doesn't start". But it clearly does run, as otherwise you wouldn't have all those DNS messages.

And did you really test with the latest 7.3.x nightly build? You should get a line like the following whenever you restart SC:

[09-01-23 08:48:46.5263] main::init (270) Starting SqueezeCenter (v7.3.1, rTRUNK, UNKNOWN)

Comment 25 Jens 2009-02-01 07:06:21 UTC
Tried 7.3.3-24832, still the same problem
Comment 26 Michael Herger 2009-02-02 00:13:16 UTC
Jens - I don't see any sign of failure in your latest log file. The only critical messages date back from more than a month ago.

I still don't understand why you think it fails starting. Could you please answer my questions from comment #3?

Please contact support as there's no obvious bug, but rather some configuration issue.
