Bugzilla – Bug 10290
Can't select audio output in Mac OSX - No digital output
Last modified: 2016-11-27 21:11:02 UTC
I downloaded today's squeezeplay (Dec 12) for OS X. It finally plays music, but is still totally useless. 1) It only plays it on the internal speaker of my MacPro. Not on the digital output. 2) I can find no control panel to set anything. 3) I can find no volume control. I can barely hear the internal speaker. 4) It is way huge on my desktop, and will not get smaller. It is ugly too. I have a 30" mon itor, and really do not need about 6" x 6" filled up with almost no information.
Well???
*** Bug 10431 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This is critical. SqueezePlay is totally useless if you cannot hear it! IMHO "Future" is not urgent enough. You have dropped support of SoftSqueeze, and have not given me a usable alternative.
I agree. This is very shoddy. Don't insult the community by marking bugs as duplicate, and then not doing anything about it. This IS critical. It should never have got this far without being tested on Macs. It should be fixed. Period.
Softsqueeze was never officially supported, it was just a community contribution. This does still work with the 7.3 release. However your right, no audio is not useful. Retargetting to 8.0.
This is the only software that I know of that does not respect system preferences. Please elevate the bug in priority. Thanks.
I agree that this should be a high priority bug, but people in this thread need to chill out. This isn't even officially released. We all downloaded it from the "beta and Pre-release" page. Though as James Rome notes, since development of Softsqueeze is done, this is where it's at for soft playback. James Rome: volume control from the browser UI. And perhaps you would prefer the "controller" skin to the "desktop" skin.
Gosh, with a broken analog out on my mini, I would love this bug fixed so I could enjoy SqueesePlay goodness. But really, the high emotion rants/tantrums don't do anything but annoy/irritate the kind folks who might be able to fix this for us. How about asking nicely?
I'd like this fixed as well. I run an OSX 10.5.6 mac with USB soundsticks in my office and have no way of accessing my music library (flac format so iTunes is useless). SoftSqueeze plays distorted and SqueezePlay (up to and including 7.4r5936 plays nothing! Looking forward to a working version.... Peter
this is an administrative shuffle on priority fields to help make better judgment on the top end of the priority list. P4->P5, P3->P4, and P2->P3.
P5 seems a really low priority for something that makes the player totally unusable on a Mac. Especially if you have dropped any support for SoftSqueeze updates.
I am having the problem listed in the title but can hear it fine if I use the '+' and '-' keys to control the volume. The mac Pro has 3 built in outputs: built-in speaker/headphones, line out and optical digital. No matter what I do audio will only come out of the built-in speaker/headphones and the system volume controls do not work. To adjust the volume I use the key listed here http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay#SqueezePlay_Keyboard_shortcuts I would like to thank Slim Devices for making this software available for free. I don't know about the rest of you but I have not bought a device yet and just use the software so maybe that is why I feel grateful for the software. For the people who are frustrated this does not work as intended yet, do you feel like this software was part of what you purchased from the company? Mac OS X 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 on a Mac Pro.
Why does this keep getting pushed into the future? It does not work at all on a Mac, so this really needs to be fixed unless you decide to update softsqueeze instead.
James, I am sorry and understand your frustration. SoftSqueeze was has never been officially supported by Logitech (I developed as a community member before working for Slim Devices/Logitech). SqueezePlay has not been released or supported on the desktop. The objective for the 7.5 release is to finish outstanding work on Squeezebox Touch. Right now we don't have the resources to also work on SqueezePlay desktop. However I would welcome a patch to fix this, and would be happy to include it in the next release. Richard
Ok, so I have owned a boom for about a year now, and love it, but was severely disappointed I couldn't use my audio setup in my music room as player with Mac OSX due to this bug(that has now been around for way to long). So since Logitech refuses to do anything about it, I want to see where I can help. I have the necessary programming skills(or will achieve them) and with some guidance of where to go(in the code), I should be able to help out on this, I hope. So Richard if you can set me down the path I'll try and get us to a workable form of the software(at least for users who don't use the default audio device)
Nice going Brent, let me know if you need any help! I am getting impatient also! This is especially critical for Mac users because you removed SoftSqueeze from the 7.4 server. Now my SoftSqueeze will not start anymore, and I cannot get it again. I get NLParseException[ Could not parse launch file. Error at line 0.] at com.sun.javaws.jnl.XMLFormat.parse(XMLFormat.java:62) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(LaunchDescFactory.java:57) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(LaunchDescFactory.java:75) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(LaunchDescFactory.java:121) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(LaunchDescFactory.java:349) at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Main.java:308) at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Main.java:252) at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Main.java:111) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:637) How do I get SoftSqueeze again? I replaced the .app file from a backup, but it os looking for something else to start I think. What? Where?
The old URL for SoftSqueeze on the server says to use SqueezePlay, so this really needs to be replaced ASAP for MAC users. Why did you remove SoftSqueeze when SqueezePlay is not ready for prime time? And also, http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/ says there is a version 3,8 of SoftSqueeze. Where do I get that? When youy press the download button, you get 3.7.
I agree that this bug severely impedes Mac usage. It remains active in 10.6
Essential for me on a Mac Mini which has combined analog/digital output connection. I need to be able to select me M2Tech HiFace USB S/PDif out which is audiophile quality. SoftSqueeze does support selection of this device but unfortunately does not support 24/96 AIF. (Radio, Controller, On the wait list for Touch, Transporter RSN)
(In reply to comment #22) Well, perhaps not as essential as I thought. Now happily using Player to control SoftSqueeze - plays my files and allows output device selection. > Essential for me on a Mac Mini which has combined analog/digital output > connection. Richard is no longer available to us.
This needs a higher priority since SoftSqueeze is no longer supported.
This is an issue for me too. I need to send output to FireWire, and this fails. Would like to see this fixed ASAP.
(In reply to comment #26) > This is an issue for me too. I need to send output to FireWire, and this fails. > Would like to see this fixed ASAP. Try SoftSqueeze, which is available from the main server screen under Community SoftSqueeze. But that too is broken in Lion. It does recognize Java, even after it and the new Lion SDK are installed.
Want to submit that the bug is still out there. I've installed SqueezePlay on 2 Macs (iBook G4 with OS X 10.5.8 & the other a Mac Mini with OS X 10.6.8). SqueezePlay only outputs sound from computers internal output & will not output through USB into DAC, etc.
