Description Nigel Birch 2008-11-30 02:27:59 UTC
This is with SqueezeCentre v7.2.1 on Windows Vista.

If one customises the Now Playing Information selection (under Settings > Player > Basic Settings on the web interface) to remove the top "None" item, the Now Playing Screensaver does not display.

For example, I have only one item in the Now Playing Information selection (Elapsed Time on SB and Progress Bar on Boom). When this is the only option (and it's selected), the Now Playing screensaver does not kick in after the chosen time delay.

From the player UI, if one goes to Settings > Display > Now Playing Information, the single option is shown but is not checked. Checking the option does not make the Now Playing sreensaver work. However, if one now goes back to the web interface, the single option is no longer selected (the bottom blank option is).

I think this is a specific example of a more general problem. If there are lots of items in the Now Playing Information selection, and the top "None" item is removed, there is a mis-match between the list of options shown in the player UI settings and the web interface settings. It seems like there's an assumption that the top "None" item is now removed (or perhaps that the list isn't customised).

I'm not sure when this started to happen. It's not been like this forever, though.

Hopefully that explanation makes sense - it's a funny one to describe.

Now exactly related, but see bug 10175 for a problem sync player preferences between SqueezeCentre and SqueezeNetwork that drop-down lists are customised.
Comment 2 Michael Herger 2008-12-02 17:08:42 UTC
change 24187 - while I haven't been able to reproduce the issue where the screensaver wouldn't kick in any more, there was a bug in the setting on the player's display. This bug could potentially have caused the confusion with the screensaver. Please give it a try and re-open, if this didn't fix it. Thanks!

I'll test my problem against your fix once I get 7.3 installed (probably a month or so). Thanks.
Comment 4 Nigel Birch 2008-12-15 15:23:49 UTC
So far, this looks to be fixed. I'll keep an eye on the players for a few days and re-open if I'm still seeing problems. Thanks.

Verified fixed in

SqueezeCenter 7.3.1 r24367
Comment 6 Nigel Birch 2008-12-20 08:32:46 UTC
I did see this after upgrading to v7.3 (from SVN, so would have been an early 7.3.1). This was after the fix that Michael checked in.

What seemed to fix it was, from the player UI, going to Settings > Display > Now Playing Info and then going right to enable the already checked option (i.e. the only option available, as customised from the web UI settings).

Of course, that we be user voodoo (i.e. a placebo).

Opps - I meant "Of course, that could be user voodoo (i.e. a placebo)."

This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.1 release version of SqueezeCenter!

Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.

I'm still seeing this. The last time (about a week ago on a v7.3.1-ish SVN check-out) the fix described in comment 6 didn't work. Is there any debugging I can enable to help track down the cause of the behaviour I'm seeing? Thanks.
Comment 10 Michael Herger 2009-01-08 22:11:47 UTC
QA - can you reproduce this issue? Exact steps?
Comment 11 Chris Owens 2009-03-16 09:41:00 UTC
We are now planning to make a 7.3.3 release. Please review your bugs (all marked open against 7.3.3) to see if they can be fixed in the next few weeks, or if they should be retargeted for 7.4 or future.

Thanks!

Testing SC 7.3.3 r25687 using a Transporter and Boom, I am unable to see the error as described in comment 1
Comment 13 Nigel Birch 2009-03-30 14:28:36 UTC
I saw this again tonight. I played an album (after browsing genres), adjusted the volume and left the player alone. The now playing (jump back) screen saver never kicked in.

Is there any debugging I can enable to help find the cause? Thanks.
Comment 14 Chris Owens 2009-03-30 17:31:06 UTC
Since there's now a planned 7.3.3 release, bugs which won't make the cut-off are being moved to the next target out. If you feel that this bug needs to be addressed more (or less) urgently than the 7.4 release, please cc chris@slimdevices.com and leave a comment in the bug to that effect so we can review it.

Thanks.
Comment 15 Chris Owens 2009-03-31 08:53:21 UTC
For some reason Bugzilla did not change the target when I did this yesterday. Or maybe it was me. In either case, I'm trying it again.
Comment 16 James Richardson 2009-05-11 13:49:01 UTC
Please try the 7.3.3 nightly, also verify your SBC is on the latest firmware revision of r5577 or higher

Turn the following logging to DEBUG:

Player.Display
Player.Jive

Then attempt to recreate the error, attach the log file to this report.
Comment 17 Nigel Birch 2009-05-17 00:48:06 UTC
Okay, I've updated to the latest v7.3 nightly and enabled that debugging. I'll keep an eye out for a week or so. I've not seen it in a while, so it may be fixed/gone.
Comment 18 James Richardson 2009-06-10 12:24:32 UTC
Nigel: can I mark this one as fixed now?
Comment 19 Nigel Birch 2009-06-10 12:26:55 UTC
I'd say so - I've not seen it for a while.
Comment 20 Pat Ransil 2009-07-30 16:27:13 UTC
Marking as Fixed per comments from James and Nigel.
