Bugzilla – Bug 10111
Albums sorted wrong in Controller, ok on web and classic UI.
Last modified: 2009-07-31 10:32:27 UTC
Latest nightly 7.3, browsing by album (music library -> albums) the sort is by artist and not by album. On jive. SB3 seems fine. web is fine too.
On your controller, look at Settings > Advanced > Album Sort Method: how is that set?
It's indeed Artist, Album, which is wrong as a default, especially for the main Album area.
The default sort order of albums is now album-- SC 7.3 change 24037 I should note-- there was a clear majority of forum posters that wanted the default sort order of albums to be artist, album. See bug #6591.
I agree that this sort order may be fine for other places besides the top-level Albums area. I don't think that this one should be changeable at all.
> I don't think that this one should be changeable at all. On this point I strongly disagree, and I won't be alone in that sentiment. Music Library->Albums on the controller was basically worthless to me until sort by artist, then album was available as a sort order for that list. This opinion was echoed many times on the forums and is what prompted the user setting for album sort order. Why remove it now?
With this setting, it's impossible to browse and find an album by name. Is browse Library -> Albums useless for you in both the web and classic UIs? The default behavior should be the same on the web, classic and controller UI.
Just to be clear, I've already changed the default back to sorting by album name, change 24037. The default behavior is now identical in all UIs. What I've left in, and don't want to remove, is the ability to change the sort setting through Settings->Advanced->Albums Sort Order. This is especially useful in the controller because it allows you to browse the entire list of albums, with cover art, sorted by artist. It's now my "go to" method of browsing for music. (and yes, Music Library->Albums is useless for me in both Web and Player UIs. It has zero utility for me sorted that way)
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter! Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already. If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
