Bugzilla – Bug 10082
SqueezeCenter died, restarting. libfreetype6
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:17:08 UTC
I haven't seen this but a few people have mentioned it, workaround is to use aptitude to install libfreetype6.
Additional user problems with this bug: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56315 Please do NOT target this for 7.3.1. Please re-spin the 7.3 package with a bump to the deb version.
We'll get this into the next release for sure. I see no compelling reason to re-spin the Deb release for this change, but thats not up to me. Dean, the issue here is that on *some* Debian distros, depending on how users have set them up, they may not include libfreetype6 which is a requirement because we have been unable to statically compile it into our perl modules. Its a simple fix -- but it only affects a handful of our more technical users (people who likely didnt do 'default' Debian installs). I can check the fix into 7.3.1, or try to re-spin 7.3 with this change in it. Its up to you..
The debian package components shouldn't be part of the main source branch for this exact reason. I have confirmed that libfreetype6 is not installed in a default install of Ubuntu server. It seems to be only included in desktop releases.
so, why doesn't the pkg just depend on libfreetype6? 7.3.1 for sure, it's an easy workaround for 7.3 users.
That's what I'm suggesting, make the squeezecenter package depend on the libfreetype6 package. I just consider it a trivial thing to update the package specs and dpkg-buildpackage again. Not something that needs to wait for the next release branch of squeezecenter.
Fixed in change 24576
Verified libfreetype6 is a dependency of the SC package, (7.3.2 - 24638) using dpkg --info, thanks Matt!
