In the web interfaces playlist view there's a "by" after every entry, but no artist name:
 
La Femme D'Argent (AIR - Moon Safari) by    
Sexy Boy (AIR - Moon Safari) by    
All I Need (AIR - Moon Safari) by    
Kelly Watch the Stars (AIR - Moon Safari) by
 
This seems to be independant from the format string used.

your titleformat is TITLE - (ARTIST - ALBUM) ?

fixed at r2404 for Fishbone, Default and EN

There are 536 bugs in the database with targets of '---' that were fixed prior to new year 2006.  I am setting them to targets of 6.2.1 to keep them from showing up in my queries.
