Description Matthew J. Martin 2008-11-17 19:18:04 UTC
after completing the SC wizard, there are no instructions on how to connect newly installed player(s) to SC

the current out of box/new user instructions leave new users with the device connected to SN (as a required part of the setup process), and a fresh install of SC (we instruct them to do this in the SN wizard), but no instructions on how to actually use SC with their device once they have it installed (e.g., ok, I installed all the software, now how do I access my local music? -- user needs to disconnect from SN, connect to SC at this point)

Matt(s) QA has not seen the 'new' setup wizard documentation, please give us documentation so we can validate the new setup procedure

michael and weldon: what should we do here?
Comment 3 Blackketter Dean 2008-11-23 15:10:03 UTC
I assume we'll need this for 7.3, given its severity.

mweldon: please comment!

Can somebody explain how this behavior is different from the current version?
Comment 6 Weldon Matt 2008-11-24 14:53:29 UTC
Unless I'm missing something, after setup is complete, the user can see "squeezecenter" as an option in their player UI menu, no?

The previous version was the same, right? If there are currently instructions on how to add players within the setup "wizard," it's likely that most readers aren't catching this anyway.

If I'm missing something here, please clarify and I can provide a resolution. Otherwise, this looks more like a feature enhancement request than a bug...

Reclassifying as enhancement, re-targeting.

See attached screenshot of last wizard pane.

New user enters PIN--their device is successfully connected to SN. Next, we instruct users--if you want to listen to your local music, download and install SC.

At the end of the SC wizard (which the user downloaded because we told them they would be able to play their local music), the only instructions are about how to play internet radio.

However, to actually play their music at this point the user needs connect their device to their newly installed SC (Settings->Music Source...or whatever).

The whole point in downloading SC is to play local music (hence why the wizard asks)--so it's important that the wizard FULLY guides the user through the steps necessary to do just that, otherwise we are not delivering on the promise of the software itself.

Ping Matt. Do you need someone to help with this? The Genesis release is getting quite close.
Comment 11 Weldon Matt 2009-01-26 10:23:28 UTC
This shouldn't be an issue in 7.4, since users won't have to select "squeezecenter" as an option in the Player UI. Instead, navigating to "my music" will take the user to a directory of local content, and the connection to squeezecenter will happen "behind the scenes." Alternatively, connecting to music services will connect the user to squeezenetwork.

Great, Matt! MUCH better fix. Closing this bug.
