Sample APE file

When playing an APE file transcoded to MP3 via LAME, the Squeezebox plays nothing but static.

The APE files plays perfectly fine when Transcoded to FLAC.

I was able to reproduce this issue using the file attached.

Just to be precise :
 - I am running Vista SP1
 - The FLACs files play perfectly fine when Transcoded to MP3 via LAME.

In SC > Settings > Advanced > File Types: what do you have Monkey's Audio settings configured too

What version of Lame are you using

can you attach your convert.conf file to the bug please

I use LAME 32bits version 3.97

It seems that mac.exe brings my cpu on its knees. It's true that I don't have a powerful box...
But at least, when I am not converting my apes to mp3, I can hear them properly...

Steven: can you have a look at this for 7.3.1
Comment 7 Spies Steven 2008-12-03 11:21:56 UTC
Unfortunately this issue is still present with new streaming in 7.3. Seems to me that is has something to do with the -x force byte-swapping of input switch for lame being included on the convert.conf line. Removing this switch from convert.conf allows the file to play fine for me.

Alan, do we even need to include this -x switch in convert.conf anymore? Not sure why we include --resample 44100 either.
Comment 8 Alan Young 2009-01-06 02:07:43 UTC
Why do you transcode to MP3 instead of FLAC, especially as you say that you are CPU-limited?
Comment 9 Alan Young 2009-01-06 02:08:56 UTC
Steven, I agree that both the -x and --resample switches look wrong.

I removed the -x and --resample and it works nicely... I'll stick to this solution for now. I just have to remember to remove these options each time I upgrade my squeeze server.

Verified to play without any static sound while transcoded via lame in 7.3.2 - 24638.
