Something is causing your server to crash it seems. What I'd like to try is running the server manually and capture error data to see if we
can see what's causing the crash. Try the following:

Windows XP

1. Make sure SqueezeCenter is stopped. Right-click on the Squeezetray icon in the system tray and select "Stop SqueezeCenter".

2. On your PC, open a DOS window. To do this go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

3. In the DOS box, change directories to the SqueezeCenter install directory, in particular where the server executable is. The default is C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\Server. To change to this folder, type in: (each line is completed by pressing ENTER)

cd \

cd Program Files

cd SqueezeCenter

cd server

4. Next, type in:

SqueezeCenter.exe --debug server --logfile=C:\Squeezecenter.log

This starts the scanner manually with text output sent to a file. If it hits an error, the log will reflect it.

5. Lastly, can you email that log file to me? (it may be best to compress the log into a zip file, if you can.)

Once we receive the file we will review the log, and let you know what we find.

Can you try the following:


Windows XP

1. Click on Start > Control Panels > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

2. In the opened Event Viewer box, click "Applications" on the left side. This will display all application events on the right side.

3. Under the Action menu, click "Save Log File As..." and save the file someplace you'll know where to find it. (keep the file type as .EVT)

Lastly...

4. E-mail that log file to me here.


Windows Vista

1. Open the Event Viewer by clicking the Window button > Control Panels > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

2. Next, look on the left side and if "Windows Logs" is not expanded double-click on it. You should see five sub-headings, the first of which is "Application".

3. Click on "Application". This will display all system messages for applications in the middle window.

4. Next, click on Action at the top (the menu bar) and select "Save Events As..."

5. Give the log file a name and click "Save". (be sure to save it in a location you'll be able to find later.)

Lastly...

6. E-mail that log file to me here.


That will hopefully shed some light on what is causing your server to crash.

Pete,

6.5 worked with Norton probably because the exceptions were put in.

I noticed that you put (lost subsciption) in the last email ....can you please clarify this? By uninstalling you do not loose your subscription.

What happens if you go to Start --> all programs --> SqueezeCenter- --> SqueezeCenter Startup options.

Select the option Start SqueezeCenter when system boots.

Put in your username and password if applicable and click next.

Restart your computer and let me know if it still says SqueezeCenter Starting.

I unstalled Norton 360 (lost my subscription) and it did nothing to help, squeezecenter tray just blinks and says "starting". Why did 6.5 have no problem with Norton?

Pete,

Disabling Norton does absolutely nothing.

Norton still leaves stuff running in the background.

Can I please have you uninstall Norton and see if that helps the situation?

Yes, Norton 360 and I did disabled it be for installing SC 7.1. Also I can reinstall Slimserver 6.5 and everything is fine.

I installed SC 7.1 on my Vista computer everything went fine but after the
install I click on sqeezecenter and nothing happens and SC tray on the bottom
just says “sqeezecenter starting” that’s all.

I recommend a clean install of SqueezeCenter.
To perform a clean install follow the steps below.

1. Open Control Panels and click Add/Remove Programs

2. Scroll down to SqueezeCenter and click Uninstall SqueezeCenter

3. Restart your computer

4. Delete the SqueezeCenter folder in C:\Program Files
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- Click on C:\
- Click on the Program Files folder
- Locate the SqueezeCenter folder and delete it

5. Delete the SqueezeCenter data folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- In the Address bar at the top of the page, type the path above
- In the Application Data folder, locate and delete the SqueezeCenter folder

6. Download and reinstall SqueezeCenter from:

Disabling Norton does absolutely nothing.

Norton still leaves stuff running in the background.

Can I please have you uninstall Norton and see if that helps the situation?

Yes, Norton 360 and I did disabled it be for installing SC 7.1. Also I can reinstall Slimserver 6.5 and everything is fine.

Hello,
I installed SC 7.1 on my Vista computer everything went fine but after the
install I click on sqeezecenter and nothing happens and SC tray on the bottom
just says “sqeezecenter starting” that’s all.

If it is more convenient, you may also call our phone support line at 1-877-887-8889 Monday through Friday from 9 am to 7pm PDT.

I recommend a clean install of SqueezeCenter.
To perform a clean install follow the steps below.

1. Open Control Panels and click Add/Remove Programs

2. Scroll down to SqueezeCenter and click Uninstall SqueezeCenter

3. Restart your computer

4. Delete the SqueezeCenter folder in C:\Program Files
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- Click on C:\
- Click on the Program Files folder
- Locate the SqueezeCenter folder and delete it

5. Delete the SqueezeCenter data folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- In the Address bar at the top of the page, type the path above
- In the Application Data folder, locate and delete the SqueezeCenter folder

6. Download and reinstall SqueezeCenter from:

Pete,

6.5 worked with Norton probably because the exceptions were put in.

I noticed that you put (lost subsciption) in the last email ....can you please clarify this? By uninstalling you do not loose your subscription.

What happens if you go to Start --> all programs --> SqueezeCenter- --> SqueezeCenter Startup options.

Select the option Start SqueezeCenter when system boots.

Put in your username and password if applicable and click next.

Restart your computer and let me know if it still says SqueezeCenter Starting.

I unstalled Norton 360 (lost my subscription) and it did nothing to help, squeezecenter tray just blinks and says "starting". Why did 6.5 have no problem with Norton?

Hello,
I installed SC 7.1 on my Vista computer everything went fine but after the
install I click on sqeezecenter and nothing happens and SC tray on the bottom
just says “sqeezecenter starting” that’s all.

If it is more convenient, you may also call our phone support line at 1-877-887-8889 Monday through Friday from 9 am to 7pm PDT.

I recommend a clean install of SqueezeCenter.
To perform a clean install follow the steps below.

1. Open Control Panels and click Add/Remove Programs

2. Scroll down to SqueezeCenter and click Uninstall SqueezeCenter

3. Restart your computer

4. Delete the SqueezeCenter folder in C:\Program Files
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- Click on C:\
- Click on the Program Files folder
- Locate the SqueezeCenter folder and delete it

5. Delete the SqueezeCenter data folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- In the Address bar at the top of the page, type the path above
- In the Application Data folder, locate and delete the SqueezeCenter folder

6. Download and reinstall SqueezeCenter from:

http://slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html (http://slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html)

Once SqueezeCenter finishes scanning your music library, verify that everything is working by playing a file. You may need to update your player once you get connected.

Pete,

Disabling Norton does absolutely nothing.

Norton still leaves stuff running in the background.

Can I please have you uninstall Norton and see if that helps the situation?

Yes, Norton 360 and I did disabled it be for installing SC 7.1. Also I can reinstall Slimserver 6.5 and everything is fine.

I recommend a clean install of SqueezeCenter.
To perform a clean install follow the steps below.

1. Open Control Panels and click Add/Remove Programs

2. Scroll down to SqueezeCenter and click Uninstall SqueezeCenter

4. Delete the SqueezeCenter folder in C:\Program Files
- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- Click on C:\

- Locate the SqueezeCenter folder and delete it

- Click on Start
- Click on My Computer
- In the Address bar at the top of the page, type the path above
